Outside it’s storming with wind and rain while inside the Newport Performing Arts Center the weather is perfect to enjoy performances of the Metropolitan Opera via HD TV. This past weekend we were treated to an encore performance of der Rosenkavalier by Strauss. Comedy, tragedy and romance all rolled into one with amazing performances by Renee Fleming and Susan Graham. Next Sunday, January 17 is the presentation of one of the worlds most popular operas, Carmen by Bizet. This performance will star mezzo soprano Elina Garancia in the role of Carmen — said to be one of the most demanding roles of all.
