Surf Sand and Symphony: Newport’s Orchestra begins 2009-2010 Season
Saturday, September 26th is an excellent time to visit the Oregon Coast and participate in the opening concert of the 2009-2010 Newport Symphony Orchestra season. The anchor piece, conducted by Maestro Adam Flatt, will be Symphony No. 5 “Reformation” by Felix Mendelssohn. The NSO will be performing this magnificent work in celebration of Mendelssohn’s bicentenary. In addition, there will be presentations of: Jubel Overture by Carl Maria von Weber, An Elegy to our Forefathers and County Band March by Charles Ives, and Fantasia on Greensleeves by Ralph Vaughan Williams. These great works will quote familiar anthems, songs and hymns. Concert begins at 7:30 PM with a pre-concert lecture by Maestro Flatt at 7:00 PM
Tickets can be purchased at the Newport Performing Arts Center box office or by calling 541-265-ARTS (2787). Season subscription information is available at the NSO website. (The PAC seating chart may come in handy.) Come on over to the Coast and enjoy our wonderful Fall weather and an evening of beautiful music.
