The 4th of July is a much anticipated holiday here on the Oregon Coast. This year was a real surprise with heavy fog and mist. Many of our visitors were from inland where the temperatures are commonly in the upper 90’s to low 100’s this time of year. They certainly got cooled off while watching the reflection of the ariel pyrotechnics off the fog. All was not lost however as the Newport Symphony Orchestra performed a free concert of patriotic music for the community. Guest soloist, Erica Brookhyser, Mezzo-Soprano, is a Newport native and is now performing worldwide. The orchestra was superbly led by Adam Flat, Conductor and Musical Director.
In addition, David Ogden-Stiers participated in narration and conducting. David is a resident of Yachats and is a major contributor to the Newport Symphony as well as an active board member.
Lots of happy faces were seen as we took time out to reflect on our many freedoms. Plans are being made for July 4, 2010.
