Fleet of Flowers: a Depoe Bay Memorial Day Tradition
The Fleet of Flowers was first held in 1945 to honor the loss of a local fisherman, his son and the son’s teenaged friend. The accident occurred in the mid 1930′s and since 1945 it has become an annual event involving volunteer boaters and the Coast Guard. In our community, we are closely linked to the Sea and keenly feel the loss of fishermen as well as those who love the Ocean. It has become a celebration of great spiritual significance.

There are dozens of sites with more information. I just typed in Fleet of Flowers on Google and found tons of history and wonderful images. I hope you’ll choose to share this important holiday with us on the Oregon Coast. And while you’re in the neighborhood, please drive on down to Newport and come see me at the open houses I’m holding all weekend at The Regatta Condos.
